Kuwaiti authorities are preparing to carry out a new round of executions in the coming days, according to local media.
Eight inmates on death row, including women, are scheduled to be executed at Kuwait’s Central Prison. Preparations have been completed by the relevant authorities, including emergency and forensic medicine services.
Representatives from the Public Prosecution, the Ministry of Interior, and other agencies will attend the executions. There has been no immediate comment from Kuwaiti officials.
In January, Kuwait executed eight defendants convicted of murder after their death sentences were finalised. They included seven Kuwaiti nationals — six men and one woman — and an Egyptian expatriate. Each was convicted in separate murder cases. Those executions were the first carried out in Kuwait this year.
Last September, the country executed seven individuals convicted of murder. Among them was a woman found guilty of killing her friend.
In Kuwait, death sentences can only be enforced after the Criminal Court, Court of Appeal, and Court of Cassation have upheld the verdict. Final approval from the country’s emir is also required.
