Kuwait is reaffirming its commitment to sustainability, greenhouse gas reduction, and achieving carbon neutrality. Dr. Mahmoud Boushehri, Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, emphasized the country’s determination to lead efforts in clean energy adoption and environmental stewardship, as reported by Al Jarida.
In his speech at the opening of the 24th meeting of the Regional Renewable Energy Council at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Dr. Boushehri stressed the importance of regional cooperation in transitioning to more sustainable energy systems. He highlighted Kuwait’s dedication to achieving sustainable development goals and improving energy efficiency across various sectors.
Core Pillars for Clean Energy Production
Dr. Boushehri outlined two core pillars for clean energy production: renewable energy generation and energy consumption. He underscored that improving energy efficiency not only reduces consumption but also curbs the need for traditional electricity production, which benefits the environment and supports sustainable practices.
Investment and Efficiency
The Minister also called for the development of policies and mechanisms to promote investment in renewable energy and ensure its efficient use across diverse economic sectors, including private housing, commercial, industrial, and agricultural sectors. He emphasized that clean energy and efficiency are key elements of Kuwait’s broader sustainable development agenda.
He further stressed the importance of investing in renewable energy technologies, localizing cutting-edge technologies, and training national professionals. Additionally, Dr. Boushehri underscored the need to raise public awareness on energy efficiency to encourage responsible consumption and sustainability.
Facilitating Knowledge Exchange
Dr. Boushehri recognized the vital role of the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in supporting regional countries. The Center helps by facilitating knowledge exchange, building capabilities, and offering practical recommendations for developing national and regional policies. These efforts are central to fostering the growth of renewable energy solutions across the Middle East.
Kuwait Sustainable Energy Week
In line with Kuwait’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, Dr. Boushehri announced that Kuwait will host the Kuwait Sustainable Energy Week from May 11 to 13. The event will feature a conference and exhibition organized by the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency. It will bring together global and regional stakeholders from both the public and private sectors, aiming to showcase the latest innovations in sustainable energy and foster collaboration in addressing regional energy challenges.
Dr. Boushehri expressed Kuwait’s ambition for the event to serve as a key platform for cooperation, innovation, and knowledge exchange, further driving the region’s transition to sustainable energy.
Driving Sustainable Development
Concluding his remarks, Dr. Boushehri emphasized the need for intensified efforts, stronger partnerships, and an integrated approach to transforming the energy sector. He expressed confidence that these regional meetings will lead to the formulation of policies that will drive sustainable development and propel the region toward a greener, more energy-efficient future.
