Kuwait has officially become a member of the newly formed “West Asia Group” within the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ). This move comes as ten unions and associations of journalists, affiliated with the IFJ, approved the launch of the first regional group, aimed at strengthening media representation and collaboration across the West Asia region.
The inaugural meeting of the West Asia Group saw representatives from the ten IFJ-affiliated unions and associations, with seven key members elected to the Board of Directors. Among those elected is Jassim Kamal from Kuwait, who will play a crucial role in advancing regional journalistic priorities.
The newly appointed Chairman of the West Asia Group, Adwan Al-Ahmari of Saudi Arabia, emphasized the group’s focus on key priorities that align with the specialty areas of the elected council. He also expressed the group’s readiness to collaborate with regional organizations within the IFJ, as well as to foster stronger ties with the Asia-Pacific Organization.
This initiative marks a significant step for Kuwait in contributing to regional media development, fostering stronger international ties, and enhancing the collective voice of journalists across West Asia.
