Kuwait Condemns Press Freedom Violations in Palestine

Kuwait strongly condemned the ongoing press freedom violations in the occupied Palestinian territories. The country called the repeated attacks against journalists and media institutions a blatant assault on fundamental rights. Officials emphasized that protecting media workers is crucial for upholding transparency and accountability.

Additionally, at the UN Fourth Committee on Media-related Matters, Kuwait highlighted the sharp rise in attacks on Palestinian journalists. Reports noted that 15 journalists were killed in August alone, underscoring direct targeting by occupation forces. Authorities described these actions as serious breaches of international humanitarian law and media-freedom principles.

Kuwait urged the international community to take immediate action. Authorities stressed the need to hold perpetrators accountable and ensure journalists can operate safely. They also highlighted the importance of supporting initiatives that foster a secure environment for responsible media work.

Officials pointed out that media play a central role in shaping public awareness, especially during times of crisis. Misinformation and unverified reports, they said, erode trust in institutions and undermine shared human values. This situation makes addressing press freedom violations a global priority.

Kuwait also raised concerns about the unregulated use of artificial intelligence. Officials warned that AI could amplify misleading content, distort facts, and compromise journalistic integrity. They recommended creating ethical and regulatory frameworks to guide AI technologies for the public good.

The country reaffirmed its support for international efforts to protect media integrity and transparency. Authorities also committed to cooperating with UN member states to build responsible and accountable media systems worldwide. Kuwait emphasized that defending media freedom contributes to peace, stability, and global security.

Additionally, Kuwait called for continued monitoring of violations and stronger international mechanisms. Officials urged nations to ensure that journalists reporting in conflict zones receive protection and support. They also stressed that promoting freedom of expression and press accountability strengthens democratic institutions.

Overall, the repeated press freedom violations in Palestine highlight the urgent need for global attention. Kuwait’s statement emphasized that safeguarding journalists’ rights is essential for truth, justice, and transparency. Officials concluded by pledging to continue advocating for media protection at all international forums.
