Kuwait committed to UN reform as its Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah arrived in New York on Friday. He represented His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah at the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), which also marked the UN’s 80th anniversary.
Therefore, the Crown Prince led an official team that included Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya and senior government figures. Among them was Sheikh Dr. Meshal Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Director General of the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority. Together, they prepared to take part in high-level discussions shaping the future of global cooperation.
During his arrival statement, Sheikh Sabah stressed Kuwait’s long-standing support for multilateralism and international peace. He emphasized that the 80th UNGA session came at a historic moment when reform of the United Nations was essential. He declared that Kuwait committed to UN reform in order to strengthen the UN’s effectiveness in handling global challenges.
The Crown Prince explained that reform efforts should focus on building a more efficient system. He said such improvements would enhance international peace, reinforce global security, and ensure development for all. According to him, reform must create tangible outcomes that serve people worldwide.
He also pointed out that the session’s packed agenda included several high-level meetings. One of the most significant would be the meeting on the two-state solution for Palestine and Israel. Saudi Arabia and France would co-chair this important gathering. Sheikh Sabah expressed optimism that the talks could advance recognition of Palestine by major world powers. He said that recognition would represent an important step toward Palestine gaining full UN membership.
Sheikh Sabah underlined that Kuwait valued opportunities to strengthen ties with world leaders. He planned to hold bilateral meetings on regional and international issues with various heads of state. These discussions, he noted, would reinforce Kuwait’s global partnerships and highlight its role in international diplomacy.
Furthermore, the Crown Prince revealed his intention to meet with leading financial institutions and major U.S. companies. He said these meetings would focus on future investments and strategic partnerships. He explained that such cooperation would directly support Kuwait Vision 2035, which aims to diversify the economy and strengthen innovation.
Sheikh Sabah concluded by saying that Kuwait’s active role at the UNGA reflects its clear vision for the future. By leading the delegation, he affirmed once again that Kuwait committed to UN reform and to promoting peace, security, and development worldwide.
