Kuwait and Leonardo Strengthen Defense Ties with Strategic Collaboration

Kuwait and Leonardo are reinforcing defense cooperation through a new Eurofighter support program, reflecting both operational and strategic priorities. The program was the focal point during recent discussions between Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya and Leonardo’s regional director Timisgen Foushi.

The meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Kuwait City. Both sides emphasized the importance of expanding collaboration under the Eurofighter support program, which aims to enhance local air defense capabilities and strengthen long-term technical expertise.

The Eurofighter support program builds on previous agreements between Kuwait and Leonardo. In October 2025, Kuwait extended in-service support for its Eurofighter Typhoon fleet. Leonardo Aviation Services now provides logistics, maintenance, and training locally at Salem Al Sabah Air Base until December 2029.

Kuwait purchased 28 Eurofighter Typhoon jets in 2016 to modernize its air defense system. Deliveries began in late 2021, and most aircraft are now fully operational. These jets, manufactured in Italy, meet the latest production standards, ensuring advanced technology integration and reliability.

Leonardo Aviation Services in Kuwait ensures continuous pilot and technician training. The company operates both in Kuwait and Italy, allowing crews to maintain peak readiness. During acquisition, the “Eurofighter Town” hub was created at Salem Al Sabah Air Base to centralize training and maintenance.

Officials noted that the Eurofighter support program allows the Kuwait Air Force to fully leverage the jets’ capabilities. The program also promotes operational independence while maintaining close technical ties with Leonardo.

Moreover, Leonardo highlighted that supplying tailored services and local support solutions is essential to their global strategy. These efforts aim to enable efficient and effective operations of advanced defense technology.

Through this enhanced collaboration, Kuwait seeks to strengthen its national defense and ensure sustainable capabilities for the Air Force. The ongoing Eurofighter support program also illustrates the strategic importance of partnerships with international defense manufacturers.

This step marks a significant milestone in Kuwait’s defense strategy and highlights the nation’s commitment to advanced military readiness, international collaboration, and technological modernization.
