Kuwait Aims High: Shaping the Future of the Gaming Industry

Kuwait is taking bold steps to strengthen the video game industry, recognizing it as both a cultural and economic opportunity. Moreover, the two-day forum, titled “Towards a Promising Cultural Future for the Video Game Industry in Kuwait,” opened at the Arab Open University. The event emphasizes the growing impact of the video game industry on education, creativity, and the digital economy.

Speakers highlighted global trends, noting that worldwide video game revenues reached about $197 billion in 2025. Furthermore, the Middle East and North Africa contributed $7.1 billion to that total. The forum underscored the importance of artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and other technologies in creating interactive experiences tied to local culture and identity. Experts also pointed to Arab games that adapt international titles for regional audiences.

University officials emphasized education and workforce development as central priorities. The Arab Open University has developed three academic programs covering game design, programming, and esports. These programs prepare qualified national talent for a rapidly expanding sector. Additionally, the university highlighted how the video game industry fosters knowledge economy goals, youth empowerment, and innovation, aligning with Kuwait Vision 2035.

The forum also addressed career opportunities in programming, graphics, user interface and experience design, audio production, virtual and augmented reality development, digital marketing, and content creation. Participants agreed that investment in the video game industry represents an investment in knowledge, creativity, and the future workforce.

From a cultural perspective, the event promoted partnerships between the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters and universities. These collaborations aim to shift young Kuwaitis from technology consumers to creators. Furthermore, organizers highlighted support for local productions to reach international audiences, integrating Kuwaiti culture into the global digital economy.

Over the next two days, the forum will explore the scientific, cultural, and economic dimensions of video games. Sessions will discuss education, engineering, digital marketing, and skills such as problem-solving, strategic thinking, planning, and teamwork. By fostering innovation and talent, Kuwait positions the video game industry as a key driver of economic growth and cultural influence.

Ultimately, the forum demonstrates how investment in the video game industry can shape the country’s future. With strong education programs, technology adoption, and strategic partnerships, Kuwait continues to grow its global presence in gaming.
