Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met with US Special Envoy to Syria Tom Barrack and SDF commander Mazloum Abdi on Saturday. From the start, Kurdistan-US-SDF Syria talks aimed to de-escalate tensions and promote dialogue amid ongoing fighting in Syria.
The meeting focused on the latest military and political developments, emphasizing that conflicts cannot be solved through force alone. Both sides agreed that dialogue and mutual understanding remain essential to achieving peace. Consequently, the talks highlighted the urgent need for stability in Syria and the surrounding region.
Barzani and Abdi reviewed clashes between the Syrian Arab Army and the SDF. They stressed the importance of ending violence while protecting civilians. Furthermore, they discussed practical steps to restore stability to areas affected by war, including conflict zones near Tabqa and Deir Hafer.
Both parties reaffirmed the value of dialogue as the only path to peaceful coexistence among Syria’s diverse communities. They emphasized that sustainable peace depends on cooperation among local authorities, regional actors, and international partners. This approach reinforces long-term security and reduces the risk of renewed escalation.

The visiting delegation expressed gratitude for Barzani’s role in mediation and in preventing further escalation. Likewise, Barzani highlighted the need to secure Kurdish rights in any future political settlement, reflecting broader regional concerns. Additionally, the Kurdish National Council, an umbrella group of opposition parties in Rojava, also participated in the discussions, contributing perspectives from northeast Syria.
Despite the ceasefire brokered by the United States and other international actors, clashes continue in multiple areas. The SDF reported ongoing fighting near the Thawra oil field and al-Rasafa, while reinforcing defensive positions to prevent further advances. Meanwhile, Syrian government forces captured several oil fields in SDF-controlled regions.
Kurdistan-US-SDF Syria talks also focused on verifying compliance with the truce. The SDF accused Damascus of violating the ceasefire by launching attacks as its forces prepared to withdraw west of the Euphrates. Both parties emphasized the importance of adherence to agreements to prevent renewed hostilities.
Overall, the meeting reinforced collaboration between Kurdistan, the United States, and the SDF. By prioritizing dialogue, conflict resolution, and practical stabilization measures, Kurdistan-US-SDF Syria talks advance efforts to reduce violence and protect civilians. Ultimately, these discussions mark a significant step in promoting long-term peace in northern Syria.
The continued engagement underscores the commitment of all parties to negotiate solutions, maintain security, and foster regional stability. Through these efforts, Kurdistan-US-SDF Syria talks signal a proactive approach to ending hostilities and building trust among stakeholders.
