Korean installation artist Lee Sung-keun has been honored with the sculpture award at the prestigious art exhibition “For the Creative by the Creative.” The event was held at Paramount Hotel Dubai for his captivating cable-tied installation and video artwork.
Organized jointly by Artentirous and Paramount Hotel Dubai, the exhibition took place from April 12 to 19. It featured works by 29 artists representing 16 different countries.
Lee’s award-winning installation utilizes oil-tempered steel wire—commonly used in spring production—wrapped in hanji, traditional Korean mulberry paper. The wires are intricately woven into mesh forms resembling cocoons or clouds.
Visitors were encouraged to engage directly with the artwork by walking around the suspended pieces. They observed how shifting lights and shadows continuously transformed their perceptions. A 360-degree digital screen complemented the installation.
“The artists featured this year exemplify bold creativity. Their works surpass geographical boundaries and reimagine the potential of art in an interconnected global landscape,” said exhibition curator Will Yaya.
The award ceremony was attended by The members of the Dubai royal family— Yaqoob Al Ali and Sheikh Juma bin Maktoum Al Maktoum.
