Kata For All Initiative Elevates Judo Culture in Saudi Arabia

The Kata For All initiative recently made a significant impact in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. From July 4th to 7th, 2025, the Saudi Judo Federation, alongside the IJF Academy and Mahd Academy, hosted a groundbreaking seminar. Over 200 participants gathered to deepen their understanding of judo kata.

Leading the event were Dr. Slaviša Bradić, IJF Academy Education Director, and Olympic champion Giulia Quintavalle. They provided expert guidance on Nage-no-kata and Katame-no-kata. Attendees gained both theoretical knowledge and hands-on practice.

Moreover, the Kata For All initiative included a special program for children. Young judokas showcased their newly learned skills in a lively demonstration. The seminar also covered teaching methods for kata as a learning tool. Coaches explored strategies for dan-grade exam preparation and kata evaluation criteria.

Additionally, all participants performed kata routines, reinforcing their training. The Saudi Judo Federation ensured smooth organization, making the event a success. A key outcome was the formation of a national kata commission. This group will drive future kata development, from youth festivals to elite competitions.

During the closing ceremony, federation officials, including Executive Director Osama Salem, awarded certificates. These recognized the participants’ hard work over four intensive days. The Kata For All initiative has set a strong foundation for judo growth in Saudi Arabia.

Looking ahead, the Saudi Judo Federation plans to expand kata programs nationwide. With strong leadership and community engagement, the future of judo in the region looks bright. The Kata For All initiative proves that kata is vital for judo’s education, culture, and sport.
