The Izki bus accident on Wednesday morning resulted in the tragic deaths of three young boys and a 20-year-old driver. The devastating crash occurred around 7:44 a.m. while the school bus was en route to Izki from the Qalat Al Awamer area.
According to an official statement, the bus suddenly swerved right and collided with a lamppost. It then veered off the road and burst into flames. The Izki bus accident left families grieving and emergency responders scrambling to treat the injured.
Tragically, three children aged 6, 9, and 10 died at the scene. The young driver also lost his life in the fire. Two children with moderate injuries were immediately taken to Izki Hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, emergency teams transferred six children with moderate injuries and five with severe trauma to Nizwa Reference Hospital.
Younis Al Mandhari, a Shura Council representative from Izki, expressed deep sorrow. He stated that the exact cause of the Izki bus accident remains unclear. He confirmed that the bus hit a fixed lamppost before overturning off an elevated section of the road.
Moreover, he added that the children on board were kindergarten to fourth-grade students at a private school. Twelve children in total sustained injuries ranging from minor to severe.
Following the crash, the Ministry of Health acted swiftly by activating its emergency response plan. Medical teams coordinated efforts to manage the situation at both Nizwa and Izki hospitals.
Nizwa Hospital received one deceased individual, four in critical condition, and seven with serious injuries. Izki Hospital admitted three deceased and three with minor injuries. Authorities praised the medical teams for their quick action. The Ministry of Health also extended heartfelt condolences to the families affected by the Izki bus accident.
It wished a full and fast recovery for the injured children and pledged continued support for those impacted. As investigations continue, the community mourns the lives lost in one of the region’s most tragic recent road incidents.
