Iraq Expands Healthcare Infrastructure with New 100-Bed Hospital Project

Iraq launches a new initiative to boost healthcare development in Iraq with a 100-bed hospital in western Baghdad’s al-Shuala district. Moreover, the Iraqi and Chinese governments signed a strategic agreement to improve local medical infrastructure and reduce pressure on major hospitals.

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani inaugurated the project, emphasizing its importance for national health services. He noted that this hospital is one of 16 planned under the bilateral agreement. Consequently, the government intends to expand access to quality healthcare across the country.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, officials have already built 18 hospitals of various sizes nationwide. In addition, workers are constructing eight more hospitals, with completion rates between 60 and 90 percent. These efforts clearly demonstrate Iraq’s strong focus on healthcare development in Iraq.

Al-Sudani stressed that the government prioritizes health infrastructure in its broader development strategy. Therefore, officials aim to create a national medical coverage system that provides comprehensive healthcare for all citizens. Public hospitals have increased their capacity from 43,500 to 46,900 beds over the past three years. Furthermore, when all projects finish, hospitals will reach around 60,000 beds.

The prime minister added that new hospitals are rising in Nineveh, Salah al-Din, Babil, Karbala, and Dhi Qar provinces. This approach ensures citizens across Iraq can access improved medical facilities and services.

Earlier this year, the government opened the Iraqi-Korean Specialized Hospital in Baghdad’s Medical City. Additionally, Al-Sudani explained that collaborating with reputable foreign companies forms a core strategy to strengthen Iraq’s healthcare sector. This cooperation ensures high-quality facilities and specialized care.

Experts point out that healthcare development in Iraq strengthens the nation’s resilience against health crises and improves public health outcomes. By investing in modern facilities and expanding coverage, the government delivers better services to millions of Iraqis.

Overall, Iraq shows determination to meet long-term healthcare goals. Through these ongoing projects, the country highlights healthcare development in Iraq, while preparing for future medical needs and ensuring citizens’ well-being.
