Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), in partnership with Al Faisal Without Borders Foundation (ALF) and City Center Doha Mall, has launched its 12th annual Ramadan blood and organ donation campaign under the theme “Giving the Gift of Life.” This initiative aims to raise awareness about the life-saving impact of blood and organ donation. It encourages people to contribute and help save lives.
The campaign is part of ALF’s broader national effort to support Qatar’s healthcare sector. The launch event took place at City Center Doha, with notable attendees including HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, chairman of ALF, Ali Al Janahi, acting assistant managing director of HMC, and other key figures from both HMC and ALF.
HE Sheikh Faisal emphasized the importance of the campaign, describing it as a national responsibility in line with ALF’s mission of supporting humanitarian initiatives. He highlighted the foundation’s commitment to raising awareness about blood and organ donation. He also underscored their crucial role in enhancing Qatar’s healthcare sector.
Ali Al Janahi praised the campaign’s success over the years, crediting the strong partnership between HMC and ALF. He expressed gratitude for the continuous support from Sheikh Faisal and ALF. He also noted the public’s increasing awareness and participation in the campaign. “The success of this initiative demonstrates the generosity of Qatar’s citizens and residents. We hope it will continue to inspire a culture of life-saving donations,” said Janahi.
Dr. Khalid Al Jalham, HMC’s Chief Medical Officer, reiterated the importance of the campaign in improving healthcare and addressing the needs of patients. He stressed that blood and organ donation are not just acts of humanity but vital contributions to Qatar’s healthcare system. They bring hope and save lives.
Abdullatif Al Yafei, general manager of ALF, reflected on the campaign’s success since its inception in 2013. “Over the years, we have witnessed overwhelming support from the community. This campaign reaffirms ALF’s commitment to humanitarian work and promoting sustainable development,” Yafei said.
Dr. Riadh Fadhil, Director of HMC’s Qatar Organ Donation Center (HIBA), highlighted the success of the organ donation registry. It now includes more than 580,000 registered donors. This accounts for approximately 28% of Qatar’s adult population. The center has also seen an increase in kidney transplants, with 60 performed in 2024 alone.
Dr. Salwa Mohammed Al Khamisi, Director of the Qatar National Blood Donation Center, encouraged both new and regular blood donors to participate in the campaign. She also emphasized the growing importance of platelet donation, which plays a critical role in treating patients undergoing chemotherapy or those in emergency situations.
This year’s Ramadan donation campaign is expected to continue raising awareness. It aims to foster community spirit and contribute to saving lives in Qatar.
