Historic Kasbat Al-Midmar Restoration Brings New Life to Ancient Saudi Landmark

Nestled in Badr Al-Janoub governorate, the historic Kasbat Al-Midmar stands as a proud symbol of Saudi Arabia’s architectural legacy. Recently restored, this 300-year-old watchtower once protected farmlands and now overlooks the village with renewed grandeur. Thanks to meticulous preservation efforts, the historic Kasbat Al-Midmar remains a key part of the Kingdom’s cultural heritage.

Built over three centuries ago, the kasbah features a unique circular mudbrick design. Its wide base narrows as it rises, reaching seven impressive stories. Originally, guards used the tower to monitor nearby fields and ensure safety. Today, the historic Kasbat Al-Midmar still offers breathtaking views of the valley below.

Surrounding the kasbah, remnants of traditional mud houses add to the site’s historical charm. These structures, along with ancient fortresses, highlight the region’s architectural ingenuity. Furthermore, they reveal how communities relied on such defenses for protection.

Saudi Arabia’s Heritage Commission has taken charge of restoring and protecting the kasbah. By including it in the National Antiquities Register, they ensure its legacy endures. Additionally, nearby landmarks like Qishla Castle and Al-Thaghr Palace also receive careful attention.

Manea Naji Al-Saad, vice president of the Najran Society for History and Archaeology, emphasized the area’s archaeological richness. He noted that Badr Al-Janoub holds numerous historic sites. Among them, Al-Thaghr Palace stands out as a key example of early Saudi architecture.

The restoration of the historic Kasbat Al-Midmar reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment to preserving its heritage. As visitors explore the kasbah, they step back in time, discovering the Kingdom’s storied past. With ongoing conservation projects, future generations will continue to admire this iconic structure.

In conclusion, the historic Kasbat Al-Midmar remains a testament to Saudi Arabia’s enduring history. Through dedicated efforts, this ancient watchtower will inspire awe for years to come.
