Hajj Pilgrimage 2025 Over 1.5 Million Pilgrims Arrive in Saudi Arabia Under Strict Safety and Heat Precautions

The Hajj pilgrimage 2025 has brought over 1.5 million international worshippers to Saudi Arabia this week. Pilgrims began arriving for one of Islam’s most sacred religious duties, as high temperatures and large crowds challenge both logistics and safety.

Saudi officials confirmed the arrival of more than 1.5 million foreign pilgrims on Wednesday. However, they have not yet released the number of domestic participants. For reference, last year’s Hajj welcomed over 1.6 million international pilgrims.

As part of the Hajj pilgrimage 2025, worshippers gathered at Mount Arafat on Wednesday. This location is deeply meaningful in Islamic tradition. It is where Prophet Muhammad delivered his final sermon during his last Hajj.

Many pilgrims made the journey to Arafat on foot, braving temperatures near 40°C (104°F). Some pulled their luggage behind them while others paused to pray along the route.

Pilgrims stayed on the plain of Arafat in prayer and reflection from midnight until after sunset. Once the sun set, they made their way to Muzdalifah. This area lies between Arafat and Mina and is where pilgrims collect pebbles for the ritual stoning of the devil.

Saudi authorities have taken extensive steps to manage the crowds and fight heat stress. Health Minister Fahad bin Abdulrahman Al-Jalajel announced several upgrades this week. These include planting 10,000 trees and tripling the number of paramedics.

Furthermore, the government has increased hospital bed capacity and installed mist-spraying fans to cool crowds. Pilgrims were advised to stay inside their tents between 10am and 4pm to avoid the desert heat.

The tent city in Mina has been equipped with more shade and air circulation systems. These additions aim to reduce heat-related illnesses during the Hajj pilgrimage 2025.

Despite the improvements, authorities continue to face challenges due to the sheer number of attendees. Yet, the Saudi government remains committed to ensuring a safe and spiritually fulfilling experience for all.
