Hajj 2025: Saudi Arabia Bans Children from Pilgrimage to Ensure Their Safety

In a move aimed at enhancing the safety and well-being of pilgrims, Saudi Arabia has announced that children will not be allowed to accompany pilgrims during Hajj in 2025. This decision, according to the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, is being implemented to protect children from the potential risks posed by the large crowds that gather during the pilgrimage each year.

The ministry emphasized that the safety of children is a priority. They stated that this measure is necessary to prevent children from being exposed to harm in the crowded environment of the sacred sites.

As part of efforts to improve the overall safety of pilgrims, Saudi Arabia has also introduced several new initiatives. These include safety information campaigns and the use of advanced intelligent systems to better coordinate the movement of pilgrims. They are also making ongoing improvements to the infrastructure, such as the modernization of tent camps and walking routes.

The 2025 Hajj season is expected to take place from June 4-6, depending on the moon sighting. Priority will be given to those who have not previously performed the pilgrimage. This aligns with Saudi Arabia’s continued focus on regulating the annual pilgrimage. They aim to prevent overcrowding, which has been an issue in the past due to the influx of unauthorized pilgrims.

In an effort to manage the pilgrimage more effectively, Saudi Arabia has announced it will now issue only single-entry visas for tourism, business, and family visits. They are suspending the previous one-year multiple-entry visas indefinitely. This policy change will affect travelers from 14 countries. These countries include Algeria, Bangladesh, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sudan, Tunisia, and Yemen.

For domestic pilgrims, including Saudi citizens and residents, registration for Hajj has already opened through the official Nusuk app. Applicants are required to update their health details and provide information about their companions. They must also submit a Mahram (male guardian) exemption request if needed. Once registration is complete, applicants will be notified when Hajj package bookings become available.
