Gunmen Attack Iraqi Oil Tanker In Northern Syria

An Iraqi oil tanker has been targeted in an armed attack while travelling along the Aleppo–Manbij highway in northern Syria, leaving the vehicle damaged but with no confirmed casualties reported.

A local source told Shafaq News that gunmen opened fire on the tanker on Saturday near the city of Manbij, a key transport route in the region.

Authorities in Iraq and Syria have not yet issued any official statement on the incident, and the identity or motive of the attackers remains unknown.

Following the attack, local tribal and community figures in Manbij issued a statement condemning the violence and stressing that such incidents do not reflect relations between residents of the area and Iraq.

They called for those responsible to be identified and held accountable, while urging stronger security measures to protect commercial and energy transport routes.

The incident comes as Iraq has recently begun overland fuel exports to Syria, following disruptions to maritime routes in the region.

Security conditions along key highways in northern Syria remain fragile, with periodic attacks continuing to disrupt commercial movement.

Investigations are ongoing.
