Grand Mosque Offers Hair Cutting Service for Exiting Ihram

MAKKAH: Pilgrims performing Umrah can now use a new hair-cutting service at the Grand Mosque in Makkah. Five designated stations provide a convenient option for those completing their rituals and exiting ihram.

The new initiative helps pilgrims complete this important step with ease. The General Authority for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque introduced the service during Ramadan. It ensures a smoother experience for worshippers and enhances their spiritual journey.

Hair cutting for exiting ihram remains a key part of Umrah. Pilgrims can either shave their heads or trim their hair. The service allows them to do so in an organized and hygienic manner. Experienced specialists operate the stations and use sterilized equipment. These stations can also be relocated based on crowd levels, ensuring accessibility for all visitors.

Religious researcher and Hajj and Umrah specialist Mohammed Asiri highlighted the importance of this step. He explained that Prophet Mohammed instructed his followers to shave or trim their hair after Umrah. This practice follows the Prophetic Sunnah and marks the completion of the pilgrimage.

Men often prefer to shave their heads completely, while women trim a small portion of their hair. The act symbolizes renewal and purification. Pilgrims must perform this step after completing the Sa’i walk between the hills of Safa and Marwa. It also marks the lifting of ihram restrictions, allowing pilgrims to resume normal activities.

Pilgrim Fahd Al-Hamidi praised the initiative. He described it as part of Saudi Arabia’s broader efforts to enhance the pilgrimage experience. He said hair cutting for exiting ihram brings a sense of relief and spiritual fulfillment. Many worshippers find it a deeply symbolic moment, representing a fresh start after completing their religious duties.

Saudi Arabia continues to improve services for pilgrims. The introduction of hair cutting for exiting ihram reflects the commitment to making Umrah more comfortable. Pilgrims can now complete their rituals with greater ease and efficiency.
