Golden visa eligibility does not cover cryptocurrency investors, say UAE authorities. Recently, clarification comes as UAE authorities reject claims about crypto investor access. Previously, social media buzz suggested cryptocurrency investors could obtain a golden visa after a one-time payment. However, this is inaccurate, officials have confirmed.
The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP), the Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA), and the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (Vara) released a joint statement on Sunday. Together, they clarified that golden visa eligibility does not include digital currency investors.
According to the ICP, golden visas are issued only under specific frameworks and criteria. Specifically, these criteria currently cover real estate investors, entrepreneurs, exceptional talents, scientists, specialists, top students, graduates, humanitarian pioneers, and frontline workers. Importantly, cryptocurrency investors do not qualify under these categories.
Meanwhile, the SCA emphasized its role in regulating the UAE’s financial sector based on international standards. In addition, it noted that investments in digital currencies follow separate regulations and do not affect golden visa eligibility.
Vara also reminded investors and consumers to engage only with fully licensed and regulated virtual asset companies. This ensures safety and compliance within the digital asset market.
Together, the three authorities urged the public to stay cautious and rely solely on official government websites and approved communication channels for accurate updates. They also stressed the importance of avoiding misinformation spreading on social media.
The golden visa offers many benefits. For example, visa holders can enter and exit the UAE multiple times without restrictions. They do not need a local sponsor, providing greater independence. Furthermore, holders and their dependents can work, live, and study freely in the country. The visa also covers spouses, children, and parents, granting them the same privileges as the primary holder.
In summary, the UAE has confirmed that golden visa eligibility does not extend to cryptocurrency investors. Therefore, the public should trust official sources for the latest visa policies and regulations.
