Fujairah Police Officer Among Family Killed in Oman Holiday Crash

A Fujairah police officer and two of his family members lost their lives in a devastating car crash in Oman. The tragic accident occurred early Friday morning, turning a joyful family road trip into a nightmare.

A car crash killed Rashid Gareeb Al Yammahi, a 25-year-old Fujairah police officer, along with his 21-year-old wife, Jawaher Mohammed Al Yammahi, and his 51-year-old mother-in-law, Khadija Ali Al Yammahi. The crash happened at 7am on Sultan Said bin Taimur Road in Dhofar Governorate.

According to officials, the collision involved three vehicles and killed five people in total. The extended family was traveling in two cars from the UAE to Salalah for a summer holiday. Eight more family members suffered injuries in the crash.

On Saturday, mourners laid the deceased to rest in the Al Ghob area of Dibba Al Fujairah. Authorities flew seven injured relatives back to the UAE for medical care. Rashid’s father, Gareeb Al Yammahi, who is also Khadija’s brother, described the loss as heartbreaking.

“I believe in God’s will,” Al Yammahi said. “But the sudden loss of loved ones is extremely painful. Their vacation ended in tragedy.”

Al Yammahi added that the group had departed on Thursday night, with the fatal incident taking place roughly 12 hours later. He noted that doctors are treating Rashid’s seven-month-old daughter at Dhofar Hospital and expect to send her home soon.

Rashid’s brother-in-law, Ali Al Yammahi, sustained injuries along with his wife and their three young children. Two other relatives, 18-year-old Hamad and 15-year-old Sabiha, were also hospitalized. Sabiha will undergo surgery at Rashid Hospital in Dubai.

Rashid had recently married and was living with his father while building a new home. “He was always by my side,” Mr. Al Yammahi shared. “May they rest in peace in heaven.”

The UAE government quickly mobilized support, arranging for the repatriation of the deceased and treatment of the injured. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinated with several agencies, including the National Guard and Air Force, to carry out the airlifts.

The Fujairah police officer received public condolences from the Fujairah Police Force, which expressed its sorrow on social media. “With hearts faithful to God’s decree, Fujairah Police mourns the death of officer Rashid Gareeb Al Yammahi,” their statement read.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs thanked Omani authorities for their cooperation. Authorities also reminded travelers to follow traffic rules, urging all citizens to drive cautiously and observe speed limits when traveling abroad.

This incident underscores the fragility of life and the importance of road safety, especially during long-distance travel.
