Under the patronage of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the Global Water Organization (GWO) officially launched its operations from Riyadh on Wednesday. Representatives from eight founding nations signed the Global Water Organization Charter during a high-level ceremony, signaling a new era of international cooperation on water-related issues.
The founding member states Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Spain, Senegal, Pakistan, Greece, and Mauritania came together to endorse the GWO’s mission. The event was attended by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Abdulrahman Alfadley.
Prince Faisal described the launch as a crucial step toward resolving global water challenges through unified, sustainable strategies. He conveyed the greetings of King Salman and the Crown Prince to all attending delegates and emphasized Saudi Arabia’s commitment to the organization’s vision.
“Saudi Arabia will provide financial and logistical support to the Global Water Organization for the next five years,” Prince Faisal announced. He also invited all countries and private sector partners to join the initiative, emphasizing the need for collective action.
Abdulrahman Alfadley highlighted the strategic importance of the organization. He noted that water is not merely a resource, but a pillar of economic development, public health, and regional stability. The minister underscored the need for a complete overhaul of traditional water management systems.
He called for innovative financing tools, reduced dependency on subsidies, and stronger private sector involvement. Alfadley also emphasized building an integrated system that covers every stage of the water cycle using cost-benefit analysis and climate resilience strategies.
The Global Water Organization will focus on research, development, knowledge exchange, and scalable solutions to ensure long-term water sustainability. Its mission is to create a global platform that connects nations, fosters innovation, and accelerates the adoption of advanced water management practices.
As founding nations sign Global Water Organization Charter in Riyadh, the world takes a significant step toward securing water resources and supporting development goals in the face of rising climate pressures.
