Foreign Currency Sales Drop by Twenty Percent in Iraq

The Central Bank of Iraq logged a notable decrease in its foreign currency sales during July 2026. Official institutional figures indicate that total revenue from these financial transactions reached five point six billion dollars. This performance marks a twenty percent drop compared to the seven billion dollars recorded last year.

Furthermore, monthly comparisons reveal that foreign currency sales dropped by roughly three percent from June levels. Financial analysts attribute this shift primarily to evolving international monetary transfers and domestic market adjustments. Meanwhile, cash transactions actually experienced a significant upward trend during the exact same timeframe.

Specifically, physical cash operations rose by thirty-two percent to reach nearly three hundred million dollars. Conversely, international transfers designed to support external bank accounts suffered a major twenty-two percent drop. Consequently, total outbound monetary transfers settled at five point three billion dollars for the month.

Moreover, this current downward trajectory extends across the entire first seven months of the year. Cumulative foreign currency sales from January through July amounted to thirty-one point five billion dollars overall. Consequently, this aggregate figure represents a steep thirty-four percent contraction from the previous year.

In total, the financial authority processed sixteen billion dollars less than the corresponding period in 2025. Furthermore, foreign exchange controls and tightened auditing mechanisms directly influenced these updated trading volumes. Local monetary authorities continue monitoring these international wire transfers to stabilize overall currency distribution.

Additionally, commercial banks adjusted their operational strategies in response to these ongoing regulatory changes. Experts expect these financial shifts to shape domestic market dynamics throughout the coming fiscal quarters. Therefore, central banking officials will maintain close oversight over all upcoming commercial transaction channels.
