Expanding Medical Expertise: Dubai’s Fellowship Program in Movement Disorders

Dubai is emerging as a global leader in medical training through its specialized fellowship programs in movement disorders and neuro-rehabilitation. These initiatives are helping to build international expertise by providing hands-on training and cross-border academic exchange. The program recently introduced its first Indonesian Visiting Fellowship, marking a significant milestone in international medical collaboration.

Dr. Merrie, a consultant in neuro-rehabilitation from Jakarta, successfully completed her fellowship in movement disorders and Parkinson’s disease. Under the mentorship of leading specialists, she gained valuable experience managing complex Parkinson’s cases and rare neurological conditions. Her training included practical exposure to advanced movement disorders such as corticobasal degeneration and ocular apraxia. Additionally, she developed skills in administering EMG-guided botulinum injections for dystonia and spasticity while learning effective strategies for managing elevated intracranial pressure.

In parallel, Mohammed, a neuro-physiotherapist, underwent a specialized training program focused on Parkinson’s neuro-rehabilitation. He praised the fellowship for its comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach that integrates neurophysiotherapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy. The structured program allowed him to work with patients at different stages of Parkinson’s, equipping him with essential skills to enhance patient care in Jakarta.

Both Dr. Merrie and Mohammed expressed deep appreciation for the opportunity to participate in this esteemed program. They extended their gratitude to the leadership and mentors who guided them through the process. Their training experience reinforced their knowledge and prepared them to implement advanced treatment methods in their home country.

The program’s director highlighted the growing reputation of Dubai’s medical training initiatives. The fellowship not only provides an in-depth learning experience but also strengthens global medical collaboration. As the initiative expands, more medical professionals will gain access to world-class training in movement disorders and neuro-rehabilitation, fostering a new generation of experts dedicated to advancing neurological care worldwide.
