Endowment-Based Dialysis Project Improves Lives of Kidney Patients in Qatar

More than 5,000 people in Qatar have received essential treatment through the Endowment-Based Dialysis Project, a major healthcare initiative supporting kidney failure patients. From 2020 through the end of 2024, a total of 5,043 patients benefited from this programme, which reflects a strong partnership between the medical and charitable sectors.

The project is funded by the Healthcare Endowment Fund at the General Directorate of Endowments, operating under the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs. In collaboration with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), it delivers vital dialysis services free of charge to eligible patients.

Officials from the Ministry emphasized that the initiative goes beyond medical support. It also promotes humanitarian values and social solidarity. By easing the financial burden on patients and their families, it improves overall quality of life and mental well-being.

The Endowment-Based Dialysis Project serves as a model for effective public-private cooperation. While medical experts handle treatment delivery, the charitable sector provides ongoing funding and community outreach.

This approach ensures that no patient is left behind due to economic challenges. It also reflects Qatar’s vision of building a just, inclusive society through accessible healthcare and sustainable giving.

In addition, the project aligns with Islamic principles of charity and care for the sick. Endowments in healthcare offer a long-term solution to recurring social needs and create lasting impact across generations.

Looking ahead, officials plan to expand the program further. They aim to introduce mobile dialysis units in underserved regions, bringing care closer to patients who face transport challenges.

There is also an ongoing effort to upgrade medical equipment, train more staff, and raise awareness among the public about kidney health and preventive care.

The Ministry encourages citizens and residents to support the Healthcare Endowment Fund. Their contributions help sustain the Endowment-Based Dialysis Project and similar efforts that address urgent healthcare needs.

As Qatar continues to invest in both medical excellence and social compassion. The Endowment-Based Dialysis Project stands as a shining example of how charitable funding can transform lives and strengthen communities.
