Dubai public transport took center stage once again as Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum visited one of the city’s Tram stations. This unexpected appearance surprised Metro and Tram commuters, and as a result, many captured the visit in photos and videos that later spread across social media.
Meanwhile, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) posted footage showing the Dubai ruler on the Tram platform, speaking directly with transport officials. This visit formed part of his routine inspections aimed at tracking the development of Dubai public transport infrastructure. His continued engagement, therefore, demonstrates a hands-on approach to monitoring progress across the system.
The Dubai Tram, which launched in 2014, has since served over 60 million riders. The 42-minute route links Al Sufouh Station to Jumeirah Lakes Towers Station. It includes 11 stops, connecting vital neighborhoods such as Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Marina, and Jumeirah Beach Residence. Notably, the tram is fully integrated with the Dubai Metro, ensuring seamless travel for daily commuters and tourists.
In 2020, Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed also drew attention to sustainable mobility. He took a publicized Metro ride to commemorate the system’s 11th anniversary. This moment, in turn, highlighted the importance of eco-friendly travel across Dubai.
Earlier in 2025, Sheikh Mohammed marked another significant milestone by laying the foundation stone for the upcoming Dubai Metro Blue Line. This new expansion project aims to further improve citywide connectivity. It spans 30 kilometers and includes 14 stations—15.5 kilometers underground and 14.5 kilometers above ground.
Furthermore, the Blue Line will feature crucial interchange points with the existing Red and Green lines. When complete, it will also house the world’s highest Metro station, showcasing Dubai’s ambition in public transport innovation. The RTA, consequently, plans to open the Blue Line to the public by 2029.
Together, these developments underline Dubai’s long-term commitment to expanding and modernizing its transport networks. The involvement of top leadership, therefore, continues to inspire public confidence in the system’s future. With more projects underway, Dubai public transport is evolving rapidly to meet the needs of a growing population.
