Dhofar Security Efforts Strengthened for Khareef Season

Dhofar security efforts are now in full swing as authorities work to safeguard visitors during the Khareef season. The Dhofar Governorate Police Command has enhanced its presence across major tourist locations to maintain public safety. Patrols operate continuously to ensure order and provide quick responses to emergencies.

Lieutenant Colonel Akif Al Rawas, Director of Operations in Dhofar, confirmed that the operations center works around the clock. It handles all kinds of reports, including traffic incidents and calls for assistance. Close coordination with civil agencies ensures fast and effective action.

Al Rawas noted that traffic accidents top the list of reports received. These incidents often occur because visitors are unfamiliar with Dhofar’s mountainous roads and foggy conditions. In response, police activated three temporary centers in tourist hotspots: Al Mughsail Beach, Itin Plain, and Wadi Darbat.

Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed bin Saeed Ghawas, Assistant Director of Dhofar Traffic, outlined a detailed traffic plan. Patrols now monitor highways, roundabouts, and event zones to manage traffic and reduce congestion. The department also launched the seventh Traffic Awareness Exhibition at Salalah Gardens Mall to educate drivers.

Despite these steps, Ghawas identified several dangerous behaviors. These include reckless driving, off-road stunts, distracted driving, and unsafe passenger actions. He stressed that strict enforcement is underway. Drivers are urged to check vehicles, rest before trips, maintain distance, and use proper gear on slopes.

Meanwhile, Dhofar security efforts extend to coastal areas. Major Alawi bin Hafiz Al Haddad from the Coast Guard Police confirmed that rescue patrols monitor beaches. Trained teams with modern equipment stand ready to respond to emergencies. Despite warnings, some visitors swim in unsafe areas or pose for photos on cliffs.

The Special Tasks Unit has also stepped up deployment. Major Khalifa bin Jumaa Al Quwaiti confirmed the unit supports other teams and ensures rapid response. Mounted police assist by reaching areas inaccessible to vehicles, including Atin Plain and Al Dahariz Beach.

Salalah Airport is seeing increased traffic. First Lieutenant Khalid bin Omar Al-Humairi reported that airport security teams are streamlining entry and exit for visitors.

In conclusion, Dhofar security efforts reflect a joint responsibility. Authorities urge visitors to follow safety guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable Khareef season.
