‘Cycle Her Way’ Initiative Empowers Women in Cycling with Unprecedented Success

Doha, Qatar: The ‘Cycle Her Way’ initiative, launched in February by the Qatar Cycling and Triathlon Federation in collaboration with Qatar Foundation, has achieved remarkable success in its first edition. The program is designed to empower women in cycling. It aligns with Qatar’s Vision 2030 by promoting female participation in sports and nurturing future national champions.

Since its launch on February 1, the initiative has attracted over 360 participants. Among them, 169 Qatari women (46.94%) and 191 from other nationalities (53.06%). Throughout the month, participants engaged in 12 specialized training sessions. These included mountain biking at Qatar Foundation tracks, road cycling sessions, and indoor training at Ox Fitness Center.

The initiative also introduced Qatar’s first-ever women’s cycling race, drawing an overwhelming response. This milestone highlights the growing enthusiasm for women’s sports and sets the stage for a thriving female cycling community.

Coaches and Officials Praise Initiative’s Impact

Qatar National Women’s Cycling Team Coach Noura Al Amiri expressed excitement over the program’s success.

“The number of participants and their enthusiasm have exceeded our expectations. This marks the beginning of a strong women’s cycling community and will help identify talents for Qatar’s national team. Moving forward, we aim to expand the initiative by increasing training programs, securing sponsorships, and launching talent development projects,” she said.

Buthayna Al Khater, Community Events and Activities Specialist at Qatar Foundation, emphasized the program’s significance in promoting women’s health and fitness.

“We are proud to support initiatives that create safe spaces for women to engage in sports. This program not only encourages an active lifestyle but also fosters a sense of community. Our long-term goal is to help more women integrate sports into their daily lives and develop the next generation of professional female athletes,” she stated.

Commitment to Future Growth

During the closing ceremony and awards presentationQatar Cycling and Triathlon Federation President Eng. Abdulaziz Saud Al Tamimi thanked all participants, trainers, and organizers for their dedication.

“This initiative has proven that women are more than capable of excelling in cycling. We remain committed to supporting female athletes and expanding opportunities for them in this sport,” he said.

With its outstanding first edition, ‘Cycle Her Way’ has laid a solid foundation for the future of women’s cycling in Qatar. Organizers now look ahead to expanding training programs. They also aim to strengthen partnerships and nurture talent for regional and international competitions.
