The Cultural Literary Street continues to shine as one of the standout attractions during Salalah’s 2025 Khareef season. As part of the Ittin Square festivities, Dhofar Municipality launched this initiative to celebrate Dhofar’s diverse arts and heritage scene.
The Cultural Literary Street features live music, poetry readings, storytelling, visual arts, and a charming “postman” performance. Importantly, publishing houses and libraries from across Oman and the Arab world take part, displaying literary works for readers of all ages and backgrounds.
According to Salim Mohammed Al Yafai, Director of the Cultural Literary Street and Chair of the Khareef Dhofar Book Fair 2025, the fair has grown into a seasonal tradition. This year, it was hosted at Ittin Square to integrate it with the broader cultural programming.
This year’s book fair includes 27 publishing houses and libraries from various Gulf and Arab countries. Al Yafai emphasized that Dhofar Municipality curated a rich cultural program to enhance visitor engagement. He expressed hope that the event will boost both local and international turnout.
Awadh Salim Al Shukaili, who owns “Bain Al Suttoor” publishing house, highlighted their fourth consecutive participation. He said his publishing house champions Omani authors and has supported their work at both regional and international levels.
He added that their books span topics such as self-development, fiction, law, and Omani heritage. His goal is to give Omani writers a platform to reach wider audiences.
Similarly, Adel Metwally of Egypt’s “Boursat Al Kotob” confirmed their continuous involvement since 2015. This year, their exhibit focuses on Omani history books, works by young authors, and children’s literature.
Metwally praised the Cultural Literary Street as an exceptional concept. He said the atmosphere at Ittin Square adds to the event’s appeal. He noted that their publishing house now carries over 100 titles by Omani authors, spanning poetry, novels, human development, and memoirs.
In conclusion, the Cultural Literary Street initiative showcases the richness of Omani and Arab literature. It brings together writers, publishers, and readers in a festive atmosphere that blends tradition with modern creativity. The event strengthens Salalah’s cultural landscape and enriches the Khareef experience for thousands of visitors.
