Commerce Sector Committee Addresses Business Environment Challenges

Doha – The Commerce Sector Committee at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry held a high-level meeting with private sector representatives in Lusail. The meeting aimed to discuss challenges impacting the business environment. The session focused on identifying obstacles, exploring solutions, and strengthening public-private sector collaboration to drive sustainable commercial growth.

The meeting was chaired by Ayed Menahi Al Qahtani, Assistant Undersecretary for Commerce Affairs and Chairman of the Commerce Sector Committee. Representatives from Qatar Chamber and key government entities also participated in the discussions.

During the meeting, private sector representatives presented proposals aimed at improving business conditions and fostering a more competitive commercial environment. The discussions emphasized the need for stronger cooperation between the public and private sectors. This cooperation is essential to address economic hurdles and enhance regulatory transparency.

Established in 2024 by a decision of H.E. Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani, Minister of Commerce and Industry, the Commerce Sector Committee plays a key role in shaping Qatar’s business landscape. The committee includes members from the Ministry of Transport, the General Authority of Customs, Qatar General Organisation for Standards and Metrology, the General Tax Authority, the Free Zones Authority, and Economic Zones Company (Manateq).

The committee’s primary objectives include:

  • Organizing regular consultations with private sector stakeholders to identify and address business challenges.
  • Ensuring transparency in regulatory frameworks to build trust among investors and businesses.
  • Developing policy recommendations based on industry feedback to align with Qatar’s economic development goals.

Through ongoing meetings, workshops, and policy discussions, the Commerce Sector Committee aims to create a more business-friendly environment. This environment is intended to support long-term economic sustainability in Qatar.
