In efforts to regulate markets and ensure price stability during Ramadan, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Khalifa Al-Ajeel, recently conducted an inspection tour of several cooperative societies, including those in Qairawan, Seville, and Yarmouk.
Al-Ajeel was joined by Ghareeb Al-Adhan, Chairman of the Union of Cooperative Societies, Vice Chairman Talal Al-Kashti, and a team from the Commercial Control Sector. The purpose of the visit was to ensure the availability of essential goods, monitor pricing, and confirm compliance with established standards, all in an effort to stabilize the market and protect consumers.
The Minister toured multiple cooperative societies located in different regions of the country. His inspection focused on food supplies, pricing mechanisms, and compliance with regulations designed to prevent unjustified price hikes.
Al-Ajeel stressed the importance of maintaining an adequate and steady supply of essential goods, especially during the holy month of Ramadan when demand typically rises. He reassured consumers that the Ministry of Commerce and Industry is fully committed to taking legal action against any violations related to price manipulation or unfair pricing practices.
The Ministry has implemented continuous monitoring to detect and address any market violations swiftly. Teams are working tirelessly to prevent exploitation of the increased demand during Ramadan for illegitimate profit.
Throughout the tour, Al-Ajeel also engaged with cooperative society officials, asking about their ability to meet consumer demand, particularly for Ramadan-specific commodities. The officials assured the Minister that supplies were sufficient and that movement of goods was being closely tracked to avoid shortages.
At the end of the tour, Al-Ajeel urged consumers to report any violations. He reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring the availability of goods at fair prices and protecting consumer rights throughout the holy month.
