British Embassy Celebrates Female Business Leaders at Ramadan Ghabga

In celebration of the holy month of Ramadan and the recent International Women’s Day, the British Embassy hosted its annual Ghabga event, highlighting the invaluable contributions of female business leaders to the long-standing UK-Kuwait trade partnership.

Held just days after International Women’s Day, the event focused on the role women have played in strengthening the UK-Kuwait relationship, which now boasts a record £6.2 billion annual trade value. The Ghabga showcased the achievements of prominent female business figures, emphasizing their significant impact on local society.

Her Excellency Belinda Lewis, the UK Ambassador to Kuwait, noted that this year’s Ghabga would honor the role of female business leaders in the context of the 250-year-old trade partnership between the two nations. She emphasized the UK’s commitment to fostering a business environment where innovation and hard work are recognized and rewarded, regardless of gender.

Naz Demir, Country Director at the Department for Business and Trade, highlighted the importance of celebrating female leaders across all stages of their careers. She said, “Tonight, we celebrate past, present, and future female business leaders and their lasting influence on the UK-Kuwait trade relationship.”

The UK government’s dedication to empowering women in business was further underscored by the recent appointment of Baroness Harriet Harman KC as the new UK Special Envoy for Women and Girls, a move aimed at continuing efforts to support female leadership globally.

This year’s event reaffirmed the shared commitment of both nations to empower women and further solidify their strong bilateral ties.
