Bahrain recently played a key role in advancing GCC standardization efforts during the tenth meeting of the GCC Ministerial Committee for Standardization. The meeting, held in Kuwait, brought together senior officials from all member states to discuss regional technical regulations and cooperative strategies.
Bahrain’s Minister of Industry and Commerce, also serving as Chairman of the National Committee for Standards and Metrology, actively participated in discussions. The meeting reviewed the adoption of several draft GCC technical regulations, aiming to harmonize standards across the Gulf region. These steps highlight the importance of GCC standardization efforts in supporting regional trade and industry.
The session also focused on approving the GCC Standardization Organization’s budget for the fiscal year 2026. Officials evaluated resource allocation, ensuring the organization has sufficient funding to implement its strategic plans effectively. The discussion included measures to enhance operational efficiency and support member states in achieving shared objectives.
Another key topic was the adoption of the GCC Standardization Organization’s strategic plan for 2026-2030. This long-term plan outlines objectives to strengthen technical regulations, increase collaboration among member states, and enhance quality assurance across various sectors. The plan also reinforces the importance of GCC standardization efforts in boosting regional competitiveness and investor confidence.
Additionally, the committee approved the internal regulations of the GCC Accreditation Center. These regulations aim to ensure consistent evaluation of testing, certification, and inspection bodies across member states. They provide clear guidance for accreditation procedures and promote trust in regional products and services.
The meeting included participation from the Secretary General of the GCC and heads of delegations from each member state. Together, the officials emphasized the benefits of cooperative approaches to standardization and the positive impact on economic integration. They discussed ways to simplify technical regulations, reduce trade barriers, and encourage innovation across the region.
Bahrain’s contributions during the meeting reflect its commitment to advancing regional cooperation. By actively engaging in discussions and sharing expertise, the country demonstrates leadership in supporting GCC standardization efforts. These initiatives aim to create a unified framework that strengthens trade, enhances product quality, and ensures compliance with international standards.
Through continued collaboration and effective implementation, the Gulf countries can achieve stronger economic integration. GCC standardization efforts remain central to this mission, helping member states maintain high-quality standards while promoting sustainable regional growth.
