Bahrain Journalists Association Holds First Board Meeting

The Bahrain Journalists Association held its first Board of Directors meeting at the Juffair headquarters on Monday evening. The new board, chaired by Isa Al Shayji, gathered with full attendance to discuss priorities and responsibilities. The Bahrain Journalists Association emphasized its commitment to strengthening the national press and enhancing support for journalists.

At the start, Isa Al Shayji thanked Bahrain’s leadership for their continued support of the Association. He also praised officials, institutions, and media leaders for congratulating the new board and showing confidence in its mission. Their support demonstrates the strong recognition the national press enjoys within society.

Al Shayji also acknowledged media advisors and editors for backing the Association’s activities. He noted the General Assembly played a vital role in securing transparent and successful elections. He thanked organizations that provided facilities and oversight during the process.

The chairman welcomed new board members and congratulated them on gaining the trust of the General Assembly. He also stressed the press faces major challenges that require unity and dedication.

During the meeting, members elected leadership roles according to the Articles of Association. Rashid bin Nabil Al Hamer became Vice President. Mohammed Bahar assumed the role of Financial Secretary and head of the Membership Committee. Lulwa Budlama took the role of Secretary.

The board also formed several committees. These include the Professional, Legal, and Local Organizations Affairs Committee, the Training and Professional Development Committee, the Media and Artificial Intelligence Committee, the Women’s Committee, and the Culture and Youth Committee.

Three external committees were also created. Mansour Shaker will lead the Events Committee. Issa Shuraida will head the Sports Committee. Abdul Ali Qurban will chair the Photographers Committee.

Al Shayji urged committee heads to select members quickly and include representatives from diverse media organizations. He then outlined urgent priorities. These include housing solutions for journalists, securing a permanent headquarters, updating the bylaws, activating the Solidarity Fund, and tackling sector challenges.

The Bahrain Journalists Association reaffirmed its mission to empower journalists, promote press freedom, and advance the national media sector.
