The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) has awarded Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tarik the Supreme Class of the Arab Cultural Excellence Medal, in recognition of his contributions to advancing Arab culture and supporting intellectual and educational development across the region.
The award highlights efforts attributed to the Sultan in promoting cultural identity, strengthening knowledge-based development, and encouraging values of tolerance and coexistence within Arab societies.
Oman’s Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, Sayyid Saud bin Hilal Al Busaidi, said the honour reflects ALECSO’s appreciation of initiatives that reinforce the role of culture and knowledge in fostering civilisational dialogue and regional cooperation.
He added that such recognition underscores the importance of cultural institutions in preserving heritage and encouraging intellectual exchange across Arab states.
ALECSO confirmed that an official ceremony will be held at its headquarters in Tunis on Tuesday, where the medal will be formally presented in the presence of senior officials, intellectuals, and cultural figures from across the Arab world.
The organization, a specialized body of the League of Arab States, is responsible for promoting education, culture, and science, as well as strengthening cultural integration and safeguarding Arab heritage.
