Qatar Hosts First Schools Triathlon at Education City to Promote Olympic Values

Qatar Academy Doha hosted the country’s first-ever schools triathlon at Education City, bringing together students from across the nation. The event was held under the Schools Olympic Program (SOP) and organized in collaboration with Qatar Foundation’s Pre-University Education and the Qatar Olympic Committee.

The triathlon at Education City aimed to promote sports as a lifestyle, in line with Qatar’s national vision. It also focused on instilling Olympic values among students and encouraging participation in healthy, competitive activities.

More than 40 schools participated, including six Qatar Foundation schools and 35 external institutions. Students from 12 different nationalities competed in age-appropriate courses that included swimming, cycling, and running. Organizers ensured inclusivity by tailoring each stage to match student abilities.

According to Abdulla Shaheen Al-Kaabi, Head of Sports at QF’s Pre-University Education, the triathlon at Education City wasn’t just about winning. “It’s about providing a positive environment where students develop fitness, discipline, and teamwork,” he said.

He emphasized that the triathlon reflects QF’s commitment to holistic education—one that extends beyond the classroom. The event grew from awareness campaigns and activities introduced during last year’s National Sport Day, giving students early exposure to the triathlon format.

Al-Kaabi also noted that Education City’s triathlon highlights the importance of long-term partnerships with sports institutions. These collaborations support student athletes and provide them with real opportunities for growth, both physically and personally.

In addition, many QF students volunteered at the event, taking on key leadership roles. Their efforts underscored the values of responsibility, community, and initiative that Qatar Foundation strives to instill in all students.

The Schools Olympic Program, launched in 2007 by the Qatar Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Education, continues to promote student health and talent. The triathlon at Education City is a significant step in that mission.

By organizing such events, Qatar reinforces its belief that sport is a vital part of education and societal development.
