THIMUN Qatar Empowers Students to Tackle Global Challenges

Doha – The Qatar Foundation (QF) hosted its annual THIMUN Qatar Conference, bringing together 80 schools from around the world. This included 37 from Qatar and 17 international institutions. The event served as a dynamic platform for students to engage in Model United Nations (MUN) debates. It fostered leadership and diplomacy skills.

As a student-led initiative, THIMUN Qatar allows participants to simulate real-world diplomacy. They assume roles as delegates, diplomats, and representatives of nations and NGOs. Throughout the conference, students engaged in high-level discussions on global issues. These included human rights, disarmament, legal affairs, economic development, and international security. Additionally, a simulation of the International Court of Justice offered insights into international law and negotiation strategies.

Sarah Al-Hajri, Director of Student Affairs and Community Engagement at Qatar Foundation’s Pre-University Education, highlighted the transformative impact of the program:

“THIMUN Qatar is a powerful platform that embodies diversity, diplomacy, and leadership. It provides students with a unique space to refine their debating and negotiation skills while fostering empathy, collaboration, and cross-cultural understanding.”

Since its inception in 2011THIMUN Qatar has welcomed over 23,000 students. The program has helped them develop public speaking, negotiation, and critical thinking skills. Many past participants have gone on to leadership roles in their academic and professional careers.

As part of QF’s 30-year commitment to youth leadership, THIMUN Qatar continues to equip students with essential skills for addressing the world’s most pressing challenges. Students interested in participating can reach out via thimunqatar@qf.org.qa.
