Tragedy struck the expatriate community in Kuwait after an Indian nurse couple found dead in Kuwait was discovered with stab wounds in their apartment in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh on Thursday morning. Authorities suspect a murder-suicide, and investigations are ongoing.
The deceased were identified as Suraj Kuzhiyath John, 39, and his wife Bincy, 35. Suraj hailed from Kannur, while Bincy was from Ernakulam, both districts in the southern Indian state of Kerala. The couple had been working as staff nurses in Kuwait for several years—Suraj at a Ministry of Health hospital and Bincy at a hospital under the Ministry of Defense.
According to local reports, the couple had just returned from their night shifts before the incident occurred. Bincy was found with stab wounds to her abdomen, while Suraj appeared to have died from a neck wound. The Indian nurse couple found dead in Kuwait was discovered by the building’s haris (caretaker), who immediately alerted authorities.
The couple leaves behind two young children, Evelyn, 9, and Edwin, 6, who are currently staying in Kerala. Friends close to the family said the children had been sent to India in preparation for the couple’s planned migration to Australia for better career prospects.
Indian media reported that shortly after the incident, a distressed Suraj called friends to say Bincy had died and that he would soon follow. Kuwaiti police are now investigating the case to determine the precise circumstances and motive behind the deaths.
The Indian nurse couple found dead in Kuwait has sent shockwaves through the Indian community, particularly among healthcare professionals. The Indian Embassy in Kuwait is reportedly in contact with local authorities and the couple’s families in India to assist with legal procedures and repatriation arrangements.
