Domestic Violence Cases in Kuwait Double, Ministry of Justice Data Shows

Kuwait has reported 9,107 domestic violence cases in the past five years, according to the Ministry of Justice.

Women made up the majority of victims, accounting for 5,625 out of 9,543 individuals. This raises urgent concerns about household safety.

During this period, authorities accused 11,051 people of abuse. Out of these, 7,850 were men, and 3,201 were women.

The courts reviewed 4,057 cases, while 3,992 incidents ended through mutual settlement. Judges issued 3,497 verdicts, leading to 2,639 convictions.

The government confirmed a conviction rate close to 75 percent. This reflects a strong judicial response to domestic violence.

However, violence at home continues to rise at an alarming pace. Cases have doubled over the past two years.

This surge has sparked major concern among lawmakers, civil society groups, and human rights organizations.

They agree that protecting families must remain a top national priority. Protecting families must guide every policy decision. Protecting families must influence all levels of law enforcement.

In response, officials announced several new measures. They plan to increase legal awareness campaigns and expand access to survivor support services.

Social workers and lawyers will soon be deployed in more police stations. Their goal is to assist victims at the first point of contact.

The Ministry of Justice also plans to introduce fast-track court sessions. These sessions will prioritize domestic violence cases.

Parliament is now reviewing new legislation that increases penalties for repeat offenders. Lawmakers are also pushing for emergency shelter funding.

Women’s rights groups welcomed these efforts. They are calling for continuous monitoring and public reporting.

Additionally, they launched new hotlines and legal clinics across the country. These services aim to reach more victims directly.

Despite these steps, the recent rise in cases signals that deeper change is required.

Officials say they will review progress every six months and adjust strategy based on the results.
