Qatar, Argentina, and Chile Launch 2025 Year of Culture at National Museum of Qatar

Qatar, Argentina, and Chile officially launched the 2025 Year of Culture at the National Museum of Qatar. This event celebrates a growing cultural bond between the Middle East and Latin America.

The inauguration, led by Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, drew dignitaries, diplomats, and guests from around the world. The event was part of the Spring/Summer 2025 Season of Qatar Creates, a platform promoting Qatar’s creative industries and cultural initiatives.

Ambassador of Argentina to Qatar Guillermo Nicolás described the Year of Culture as a “remarkable opportunity.” It will deepen ties through music, dance, art, and dialogue. Moreover, it highlights shared values between the nations. Ambassador of Chile to Qatar and the UAE Patricio Díaz Broughton emphasized the importance of cultural diplomacy. This diplomacy is crucial in forging lasting people-to-people connections.

The launch featured vibrant performances showcasing Argentinian and Chilean traditions. Highlights included Argentinian vocalist Clara Trio’s interpretation of folkloric melodies, a traditional Zamba dance by Entre Pañuelos y Cuerdas, and Chilean musician Vicente Allende’s Flamenco guitar performance. Additionally, the event featured a Cueca dance presentation.

The evening also marked the opening of LATINOAMERICANO | Modern and Contemporary Art from Malba and Eduardo Costantini Collections. This landmark exhibition presents nearly 170 works from nine Latin American countries. Pieces by Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera are included. This exhibition, the first of its kind in the WANA region, explores themes of identity, memory, and resistance.

The 2025 Year of Culture will continue with a rich programme of exhibitions, performances, artist residencies, and community events. These activities aim at strengthening cultural ties and long-term partnerships between Qatar and Latin America.
