Kuwait Foils Surveillance Camera Hacking Attempts, Urges Public Vigilance

Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior has confirmed that multiple attempts to hack surveillance camera systems across the country have been detected and thwarted, underscoring growing concerns over national security and individual privacy in the digital age.

In a joint statement issued by the General Department of Security Media and the Cybercrime Combating Department, officials reported a noticeable increase in attempted cyber intrusions targeting surveillance networks. Authorities warned that such attacks pose serious threats to public safety and personal privacy.

To mitigate these risks, the Ministry urged the public to strengthen their digital security measures, including:

  • Regularly updating protection and encryption systems
  • Using strong, unique passwords
  • Purchasing surveillance equipment from reputable and secure sources

In addition, authorities cautioned against installing surveillance cameras in highly private indoor spaces, such as bedrooms, living rooms, or personal offices, to prevent the potential misuse of sensitive footage.

The Ministry also issued a clear warning that accessing, sharing, or reposting content obtained through illegal cyber breaches is a criminal offense under Kuwaiti law. Such actions fall under the country’s cybercrime legislation and carry severe penalties, including substantial fines and imprisonment.

As part of ongoing efforts to ensure cybersecurity, the Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring and preventing digital threats while calling on all residents to take an active role in safeguarding their data and privacy.
