Kuwaiti Court Sentences Government Official to Seven Years in Bribery Case

A Kuwaiti court has sentenced a senior government employee to seven years in prison and imposed a fine of KD1.1 million (approximately $3.5 million) in a major bribery case, marking a significant development in the country’s ongoing anti-corruption campaign.

The defendant, who headed a department within an unnamed ministry, was found guilty of awarding contracts worth KD296,000 to a private company in exchange for receiving half of the contract value in bribes, according to reports.

As part of the verdict, the Criminal Court also ordered the official’s dismissal from his post. In connection with the same case, an expatriate accomplice was given a similar seven-year prison sentence. The court further ordered his deportation upon completing his sentence.
