Qatar has participated in the extraordinary session of the Economic and Social Council at the ministerial level. The session was held at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo. It brought together heads and representatives from various Arab delegations to deliberate on critical regional economic and social matters.
The Qatari delegation was led by Dr. Saud bin Abdullah Al Attiyah, Deputy Undersecretary for Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Finance.
Key topics on the council’s agenda included evaluating progress in implementing the requirements of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area. It also included reviewing updates on the Arab Customs Union. These initiatives are part of broader efforts to strengthen economic integration and trade cooperation among Arab states.
Additionally, the session addressed the Arab Food Security Strategy for the 2025–2030 period. This is a key policy framework aimed at ensuring sustainable food systems and resilience across the region. This is particularly important amid growing global and regional challenges.
This high-level session also served as a preparatory meeting ahead of two major Arab summits. Specifically, the 34th Ordinary Arab League Summit and the 5th Arab Development Summit. Both are scheduled for May in the Republic of Iraq.
Qatar’s participation reflects its ongoing commitment to regional cooperation. It also shows its active role in shaping the Arab world’s economic and social development agenda.
