Rashid Al Khalifa Foundation Delivers Lecture at Harvard on Climate, Migration, and Cultural Heritage

The Rashid Al Khalifa Foundation for the Arts recently delivered a lecture titled “Sources of the Tree of Life” at Harvard University. Yasmine Sharabi, the Foundation’s Director and Cultural Advisor, was the keynote speaker. The event took place at Harvard’s prestigious Graduate School of Design.

The lecture was part of the course “Spatial Design Strategies for Climate- and Conflict-induced Migration,” moderated by French curator Anissa Touati. It explored how climate change, migration, and spatial design intersect. Sharabi emphasized the importance of these issues in shaping future communities.

During her presentation, Sharabi highlighted Bahrain’s rich cultural heritage. She outlined the foundation’s efforts in supporting young artists and promoting local creativity. Sharabi also discussed initiatives like the Art Station project in Muharraq Market. Another major project mentioned was the planned contemporary art museum showcasing artists from the Middle East and North Africa.

Sharabi noted, “Being invited to speak at Harvard is a personal honor. It also highlights Bahrain’s growing cultural momentum. We aim to build bridges between our rich heritage and an ambitious, inclusive future.”

She reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to supporting emerging artists, architects, and designers. Sharabi encouraged young talents to actively engage with Bahrain’s evolving social and urban landscapes.

Sharabi concluded by stressing the significance of representing Bahrain internationally. “This lecture provided an opportunity to showcase Bahrain’s vibrant cultural scene. It helps strengthen our global presence in cultural and artistic dialogues,” she said.
