Doha – The Shafallah Centre for Persons with Disabilities has kicked off a two-day awareness campaign in celebration of World Down Syndrome Day. Held at the Cultural Village Foundation – Katara, the campaign runs under the theme “Towards Greater Understanding.”
The initiative aims to increase awareness about Down syndrome, promote societal acceptance, and highlight the achievements of individuals with Down syndrome. It features social media outreach and school workshops to educate students and institutions. Additionally, there are interactive competitions at Katara under the slogan “A Day for Them,” encouraging community participation.
Shafallah is also working to showcase the talents of individuals with Down syndrome in various fields. They advocate for their right to employment and greater societal inclusion. The campaign’s main events include public competitions with prizes, fostering direct engagement with the community.
World Down Syndrome Day, observed annually on March 21, serves as a global platform to raise awareness, support inclusion, and celebrate the contributions of individuals with Down syndrome. The event brings together families, friends, and advocates to promote a more inclusive society.
