Dubai Roads See Over 2 Million Speeding Violations in 2024

Dubai roads saw an alarming number of traffic violations in 2024. Authorities recorded more than 2 million speeding violations, highlighting ongoing road safety challenges. The latest data from the UAE Ministry of Interior shows a troubling rise in reckless driving, leading to accidents and endangering lives.

Leading Causes of Accidents

Authorities identified sudden lane changes as the top cause of crashes, leading to 676 accidents. Following too closely came next, causing 518 collisions. These numbers show the importance of keeping a safe distance and staying in the correct lane.

Over 2 Million Speeding Violations

Speeding remains a major issue. In 2024, radar devices caught 2,070,338 drivers exceeding the speed limit by more than 30km/h. Another 266,137 drivers went over the limit by 40km/h, while 63,156 exceeded it by 50km/h. Extreme cases included 28,117 drivers going more than 60km/h over the limit.

Authorities stressed the dangers of speeding, urging drivers to follow limits for everyone’s safety. Excessive speed increases the risk of severe accidents and fatalities.

Other Major Traffic Violations

Apart from speeding, several other violations raised concerns. Officials recorded 154,948 cases of improper parking and 129,263 violations for ignoring traffic signs.

Distracted driving remains a serious issue, with 87,321 drivers caught using mobile phones. Running red lights also posed a major risk, with 34,542 violations.

In foggy conditions, 95 drivers ignored safety warnings and continued driving, increasing the chance of collisions. Meanwhile, 87,194 cases of road obstruction caused significant traffic delays.

Addressing the Problem

Dubai Police launched several awareness campaigns to improve driving habits. These initiatives focus on educating the public about traffic rules and penalties.

Authorities hope these efforts will reduce reckless behavior and encourage responsible driving. By promoting road safety, Dubai aims to lower accident rates and create safer streets for everyone.
