The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy is taking decisive steps to restore the country’s water reserves, which have been impacted by recent technical challenges. The Ministry plans to restart the reverse osmosis water production unit at the Al-Zour South Station on Tuesday, March 11, following a brief shutdown due to technical difficulties.
Sources confirmed that restarting this unit will add 30 million gallons to the country’s water supply, enhancing overall production capacity. In parallel, the Ministry is working to bring three distillers online at the Subiya Station, which have been undergoing maintenance on their boilers. Once these distillers are operational, they will further improve water production capabilities.
To strengthen water production even further, the Ministry has instructed the company responsible for maintaining the North Shuaiba Station’s production units to speed up their work. This will enable two distillers to operate, producing an additional 30 million gallons of water. These combined efforts across the Al-Zour South, Subiya, and North Shuaiba stations are expected to significantly increase the country’s overall water production and improve the strategic water reserves.
On the electricity front, the Ministry has formally requested the Central Agency for Public Tenders to reconsider its approval of Phase Four of the Al-Subiya Station project. This phase aims to add 900 megawatts to the national grid. The request follows the Ministry’s submission of a detailed response to the Agency’s inquiries, providing all necessary clarifications.
The Ministry is placing significant emphasis on the successful completion of this project to boost electricity production, especially given the delays in other power generation projects. Once the Central Tenders Agency’s Board of Directors grants approval, the tendering process will begin, followed by the completion of the remaining procedural steps to move the project forward.
Additionally, the Ministry has finalized its response to the Central Tenders Agency’s inquiries regarding the Nuwaiseeb Station Consultant Tender (Phase One). With this process now complete, the Ministry is preparing to schedule the launch date for the consulting tender.
