Fraudulent Domestic Worker Advertisements: How to Avoid

MUSCAT: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has issued a warning about fraudulent domestic worker advertisements circulating on social media. These advertisements are falsely offering domestic workers at unusually low prices, luring unsuspecting individuals into scams. The ROP’s warning sheds light on the increasing number of frauds linked to these deceptive offers.

The Directorate General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigation has provided more details on how these fraudulent domestic worker advertisements work. Fraudsters attach an electronic link to the ads, which, once clicked, direct users to fake websites. These sites are designed to steal personal information and withdraw money from victims’ bank accounts. The ROP has emphasized that these scams are growing in sophistication and can easily deceive individuals who are seeking affordable domestic workers.

The Royal Oman Police urges the public to be highly cautious when they come across any domestic worker advertisements online. They recommend avoiding any responses to suspicious ads and not clicking on unfamiliar or unverified links. Furthermore, individuals should refrain from sharing personal details, including banking information, on social media or other online platforms.

To assist in tackling this issue, authorities have asked residents to report any fraudulent domestic worker advertisements or suspicious online activity. By doing so, the public can help the ROP investigate and prevent further scams, protecting others from falling victim.

As these fraudulent domestic worker advertisements continue to spread, it is crucial for everyone to remain vigilant. Being cautious online, particularly when encountering too-good-to-be-true offers, can prevent financial loss and personal harm.
