Doha, Qatar – Rodri Sanchez starred with a brace as Al Arabi secured a thrilling 4-2 victory over Al Ahli in an Ooredoo Stars League clash yesterday.
At Al Thumama Stadium, Hassan Alaaeddin and Ahmed Alaaeddin also found the net for Al Arabi. They climbed to eighth place with 19 points. Julian Draxler opened the scoring for Al Ahli from the penalty spot in the 14th minute. However, Al Arabi responded strongly. Hassan Alaaeddin equalized in the 29th minute. This was followed by Rodri’s double in the 33rd and 45th minutes, giving Al Arabi a 3-1 halftime lead.
Al Ahli pulled one back through Oumar Sekou’s 79th-minute penalty. Yet, Ahmed Alaaeddin’s stoppage-time penalty sealed the win for Al Arabi. Despite the loss, Al Ahli remains fourth with 28 points.
Al Rayyan Dominate Al Wakrah
Elsewhere, Al Rayyan capitalized on an early red card to crush Al Wakrah 4-0 at Stadium 974. Suhaib Gannan was sent off in the first minute, leaving Al Wakrah at a disadvantage. Roger Guedes opened the scoring in the 29th minute. This was followed by goals from Tameem Al Abdullah (51st). An own goal by Alexander Scholz (67th) and another strike from Guedes (81st) added to the lead.
With the win, Al Rayyan moved up to seventh with 21 points, while Al Wakrah dropped to tenth with 17 points.
Al Shahania Edge Umm Salal in Dramatic Finish
At Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium, goalkeeper Shehab Mamdouh Ellethy emerged as the hero. He saved a stoppage-time penalty to secure Al Shahania’s 3-2 win over Umm Salal. VAR awarded Umm Salal a penalty in the 90+3rd minute. However, Ellethy denied Oussama Tannane, ensuring Al Shahania’s fourth consecutive win.
With this result, Al Shahania climbed to fifth with 23 points, while Umm Salal languish in 11th place with just 14 points.
