Saudi Arabia and Taiwan Expand Technology Ties

Saudi Taiwan ties could expand as Taipei seeks deeper cooperation with the Kingdom. Taiwan’s foreign minister Lin Chia-long highlighted opportunities in technology and investment. He identified semiconductors and artificial intelligence as key areas for future cooperation. The comments come as Saudi Arabia advances its Vision 2030 economic transformation.

Lin said Taiwan wants to strengthen its economic relationship with Saudi Arabia. He also highlighted opportunities across technology, industry and investment. According to Lin, both sides could explore wider cooperation in advanced technologies. Furthermore, Taiwan sees Saudi Arabia as an important partner in the digital economy.

The semiconductor industry stands at the center of Taiwan’s technology capabilities. Taiwanese companies play a major role in producing advanced chips globally. These chips support artificial intelligence, computing and other emerging technologies. Consequently, Taiwan has become an important part of the global technology supply chain.

Saudi Arabia is also increasing its focus on digital industries and emerging technologies. Vision 2030 aims to reduce the Kingdom’s dependence on oil revenues. At the same time, the government continues developing technology-focused economic sectors. Therefore, advanced technology could provide an important area for closer bilateral cooperation.

Lin said Taiwan sees opportunities within Saudi Arabia’s economic transformation. He also pointed to potential cooperation across industrial and investment projects. Moreover, Taiwan could share expertise from its technology sector with Saudi partners. Such cooperation could support the Kingdom’s efforts to develop new economic capabilities.

The Taiwanese government also wants stronger relationships across the Middle East. Lin identified Saudi Arabia, Oman and Qatar as potential partners. He said Taiwan remains ready to invest when countries establish regular economic exchanges. As a result, regional partnerships could become an increasingly important part of Taiwan’s investment strategy.

Energy security also remains an important issue for Taiwan. The country depends heavily on imported energy supplies. Therefore, disruptions around major shipping routes could affect its economy. The Strait of Hormuz remains particularly important because of its role in global energy transportation.

Lin said regional tensions have increased concerns about energy supplies. Taiwan has responded by seeking greater diversification across its energy sources. The country has increased purchases and investments involving the United States and Australia. Meanwhile, Taiwan continues expanding renewable energy projects at home.

These measures aim to reduce exposure to disruptions along major energy routes. They also support Taiwan’s broader efforts to strengthen energy security. However, imported energy remains an important part of the country’s economic structure. Consequently, developments across the Middle East continue to receive close attention.

Taiwan’s economic performance has also supported its growing technology ambitions. Lin said the economy expanded by 8.68 percent during 2025. He expects growth to exceed 11 percent during 2026. Strong semiconductor and artificial intelligence demand has helped drive that expansion.

Taiwan’s technology sector continues to receive significant international demand. Major chip producers have reported strong orders extending into future years. Demand for processors has also increased alongside artificial intelligence development. Therefore, semiconductor production remains central to Taiwan’s economic outlook.

Saudi Taiwan ties could benefit from this growing demand for advanced technologies. Saudi Arabia wants to attract investment into technology and industrial sectors. Taiwan meanwhile seeks new partnerships across markets outside its traditional manufacturing base. Together, those priorities could create opportunities for investment and knowledge sharing.

The potential partnership also reflects wider changes in the global economy. Countries are investing heavily in artificial intelligence and semiconductor infrastructure. At the same time, governments want greater control over critical technology supply chains. Saudi Arabia and Taiwan therefore have potential interests in developing new economic connections.

Lin also emphasized Taiwan’s experience with geopolitical and supply chain risks. He said Taiwan wants to share that experience with international partners. This could create additional opportunities beyond direct investment and technology projects. It could also encourage cooperation on economic resilience and risk management.

For Saudi Arabia, deeper engagement with Taiwan could support its technology ambitions. For Taiwan, Saudi Arabia offers a major market undergoing economic diversification. Furthermore, both sides have opportunities across investment, industry and digital development. Saudi Taiwan ties could therefore develop further as both economies pursue new growth areas.
