Iraqi Air Force Strikes ISIS Hideout in Kirkuk

Iraqi F-16 fighter jets carried out Kirkuk airstrikes against an ISIS hideout in northern Iraq, according to the Security Media Cell.

The Iraqi Air Force launched two strikes against the site in Wadi Zghaitoun, within the Kirkuk Operations Command sector. The aircraft directly hit the designated target during the operation, the Security Media Cell said.

The strikes destroyed the hideout and killed everyone inside, according to the official statement. However, Iraqi authorities did not provide a specific casualty figure or identify those killed.

The Security Media Cell did not release further details about the hideout or explain how ISIS used the site. Instead, officials focused on confirming the successful air operation and the destruction of the target.

The operation took place in Wadi Zghaitoun, an area under the Kirkuk Operations Command. Iraqi security forces continue to conduct operations against ISIS remnants across several parts of the country.

Meanwhile, the latest strikes follow counterterrorism operations that Iraqi forces conducted earlier this month in western Iraq. Iraq’s Counter-Terrorism Service carried out two operations targeting ISIS-related activity in Al-Anbar province.

During those operations, the Counter-Terrorism Service arrested an ISIS member and destroyed an ammunition cache, Iraqi authorities said. Security forces conducted those operations in Al-Anbar, while the latest air operation targeted a hideout in Kirkuk.

Unlike the Al-Anbar operations, which included arrests and the destruction of an ammunition cache, the Kirkuk operation relied on airpower. Iraqi F-16 fighter jets carried out two strikes against the identified hideout in Wadi Zghaitoun.

The Security Media Cell said the aircraft directly struck the intended target. The strikes subsequently destroyed the hideout and killed everyone inside, according to the statement.

Authorities did not report whether the operation destroyed weapons, equipment or other materials at the location. They also did not announce any arrests connected to the Kirkuk strikes.

The operation adds to Iraq’s ongoing military efforts against ISIS targets in different parts of the country. However, the Security Media Cell did not indicate that the Kirkuk strikes formed part of a wider operation.

The Kirkuk airstrikes specifically targeted the ISIS hideout identified in Wadi Zghaitoun. The Security Media Cell did not disclose the identities of those killed or provide additional information about the target.

The Iraqi Air Force used F-16 fighter aircraft during the operation and conducted two separate strikes. Both strikes hit the designated location directly, according to the official statement.

Earlier operations in Al-Anbar and the latest action in Kirkuk demonstrate the continued activity of Iraqi security forces against ISIS-related targets. Nevertheless, authorities have provided limited operational details about the latest strike.

The Kirkuk airstrikes destroyed the targeted hideout and killed everyone inside, according to Iraq’s Security Media Cell. Officials did not provide further details about measures taken at the site following the operation.
